A simple washing of the hands can reduce the episodes of diarrhea in the day nurseries, the schools, the hospitals and within the communities. And that, as much in the rich countries as in the poor countries, concludes an analysis of 14 studies.
According to the results, the promotion of the washing of the hands permitted to reduce the cases of diarrhea of about 30% in all studied surroundings. " This reduction compares itself to the one that one could get while providing the drinking water in some poor countries", sustain the authors of the survey.
The studies have been led in institutions of country to elevated income and in communities of country to middle and weak income.
The promotion of the washing of the hands, that aimed the children as much that the adults, is made itself by multiple interventions: sessions of information, groups of discussion, educational programs, campaigns of promotion with the help of posters, of unfolding, of announcements to the radio or to the television, etc.
According to this survey, all strategies are good to encourage the washing of the hands in order to avoid the contamination. The ultimate goal stays however the one to institute a washing of the hands appropriated and to implant good habits long-term.
In the countries to weak and middle income, the diarrhea is an important problem of public health that entails the death of millions of people every year, especially of young children. The diarrhea transmits itself by a direct contact with fecal matters or through the intermediary of water or food.
