Loss of weight: all schemes are equivalent himself, but.
That they are rich in proteins or weak, in greasiness in carbohydrates or unsaturated,
most would permit health plans to lose a similar quantity of weight. But the
maintenance of the lost kilograms is often compromised by the difficulty to follow
similar long-term plan.
Rather than the type of regime, it is more the reduction of the number of calories
per meal – combined to a big incentive to the involvement and to individual
meetings or group – that permits to lose the weight, according to a survey
américaine1.
Having called on 800 people of more enduring and plumpness or obesity minded to
lose the weight, the authors of the survey measured the efficiency of the four
following schemes:
weak in greasiness, means in proteins, elevated in carbohydrates; weak in greasiness,
elevated in proteins, carbohydrates means in; elevated in unsaturated greasiness, means
in proteins, carbohydrates means in; elevated in unsaturated greasiness, elevated in
proteins, weak in carbohydrates.
In the beginning of the program, one then subtracted 750 calories per day to the
food of each of the participants, in addition to recommend them to make 90 minutes
curbed of physical activity per week, to participate every other week in meetings
of weekly groups and the individual meetings.
After six months, the topics had lost 6 kg on average, either the equivalent of 7%
respective of their initial weight.
But after two years, their total weight loss was only of 3 kg to 4 kg, while their
waist measurement had decreased 5 cm on average. And whatever is the consistent
regime, only a participant out of four (23%) maintained a continuous weight loss
during the two years of the survey.
Named to comment the survey, nutritionist Amélie Roy indicated that the results
coincide with what she observes in the clinical NUTRIUM of the university of
Montréal2.
“The people who had more of the success in the survey are those that participated
assiduity with personalized meetings in the (counseling), she underlines. The
important is to surround the type of food in which the person will recognize
herself / itself, indeed to take into account his food habits to be able to
bring the changes that will be realistic and feasible there. ”
The regimes: not sufficient to fight the epidemic of obesity
In a éditorial3 published in the same magazine that the scientific survey, the
Katan Dutch researcher Martijin raises exactly that, in spite of elevated their
degree of education and their big incentive, the participants worked hard to
follow their plan during two years.
“The results would probably have been worse if the participants had been
recruited in underprivileged surroundings “, he makes notice.
It is why he judges important that the struggle against obesity is led in a
global way, while putting the contribution to local communities.
he mentions the example of two small French communities besides that, since the
year 2000, used different means to warn the children at the overweight, since the
kindergarten.
In 2005, they saw of the number of children suffering plumpness of falling 8.8%,
while he had increased 17.8% in the surrounding communities.
“As the cholera, the obesity is a problem that can only be solved by the
individuals themselves, but that requires collective action “, concluded Mr. Katan.
