The lycopene, an antioxidant contained in the tomato, could help towards the treatment of the benign hypertrophy of the prostate, German researchers believe.
The preliminary test, that lasted six months, has been led by 40 patients suffering from benign hyperplasia of the prostate. The topics took a supplement per day of 15 mg of lycopene or a placebo.
The volume of the prostate of the patients of the placebo group would have continued to increase, contrary to the one of the topics of the group lycopene, return the researchers. The dosage of lycopene used during this test corresponds to the consumption of about 50 ml per day of tomato dough.
The half of the men in about sixty suffers from benign hypertrophy of the prostate. This proportion climbs to about to 90% at those of 85 years.
