Query by thinkstraight27: How several hrs of biology do you have to take each and every week to complete a single year of biology for medical school?
I know that one particular year of biology is a prerequisite for medical school, and I know that this signifies that you have to take two semesters of biology. What I don’t fully grasp is how a lot of hours in total per week of biology you will have to take throughout these two semesters. Support me out, please!

I feel that it would depend on your school. Exactly where I went to school (a state university that was pretty massive), my biology courses met for 1 hour and 15 minutes twice a week, with about one hour lengthy discussion section (it was actually 50 minutes but I am going to round for comfort) and a three hour lab per week as properly. So that is about 6 hrs and 30 minutes for about 14 weeks per semester (clearly some weeks there was not a lab/discussion for tests or when there had been holidays, so the actual quantity may be a bit significantly less than this), which amounts to about 91 hrs per semester or about 182 hrs for the whole year.
In any biology course for medical school, you are going to almost certainly require a single that has a 3 hour lab and, at huge colleges, there are typically discussion sections (in which you meet with a teaching assistant for about an hour), although smaller sized colleges may possibly just have lecture. Lectures where I went were either meet twice a week for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or 3 times a week for 50 minutes. So that is how I got my estimate, it may possibly be diverse elsewhere.
Hope that helps!

Some schools vary but by biology they mean basic gen biology . . . not biology related classes like microbio or molecular cell bio. By one year they mean bio I and bio II which are 4 hours each if I recall correctly.
Obviously many med schools expect bio majors but in my med school class there are history majors (just one example) who took just gen bio I / II and gen chem I / II. The bare minimum’s. While I took biochem, molecular cell bio, anatomy, physiology , etc etc.
