@bigu236 Where acetylation and methylation come from? Its a complex feedback system of special proteins that react to certain stimuli. A perfect example of of this would be the lac operon which determines whether or not you’re lactose intolerant. That operon’s correct functioning depends on the DNA.
Consciousness is a vague term that gets misused and abused. There is work linking “consciousness” to physical sources, but if you insist science can’t study it then you’re talking about faith.

  • dudepal187 says:

@bigu236 He is trying to discredit the central dogma, which is the main idea of information transfer in genetics, in order to support his view of how consciousness can heal you but his argument is flat-out wrong. Proteins do not transfer information nor change their sequence on their own. Any folding process and resulting function is encoded by DNA. It is already well known that genes do not influence all of your behavior, but that has noting to do with the central dogma.

  • bigu236 says:

@dudepal187 he isn’t discrediting genetics as a fact, hes discrediting genetics as a cause for all behavior and biology, scientists don’t have a clue about consciousness yet, they’ve discovered no “physical” mechanism for it, they aren’t even close, so ideas like this aren’t so far-fetched, science can only prove things with repeated controlled experimentation, but how do you do that with consciousness, its not possible, epigenetics def can’t accomplish such a thing

  • bigu236 says:

@dudepal187 hes not “anti-gene”, hes just trying to answer the question, where does acetylation and methylation come from, and then keeps tracing it back to probably the power of conciousness, at least i think thats where hes going with it

@snexer Those useless calculations are the building blocks for all of our useless technology.

@snexer Those usless calculations are the building blocks for all of our useless technology.

  • andre178 says:

@snexer actually, this is taught in most biology classes. Those useless calculations build logic, by promoting neuron pathway growth. Schools can’t teach you, they only expose you to knowledge.

@qbulb There is a difference between being open-minded and buying into BS. His ideas are just plain wrong, this is not a matter of opinion. You can’t control gene expression on the level he promises with the mind alone. If science took his ideas seriously, we would be regressing. He is stretching truth, not discovering it. Genetics is fairly well-established (granted, still lots of questions), its the newer epigenetics that he is stretching and taking advantage of.

  • qbulb says:

@dudepal187 …some of his ideas may be false according to others, maybe not. One thing about it is that it is a progression of genetic science. First, one bit is discovered, then later another bit is discovered and then something is discovered to be wrong and then a bit more is discovered and so on. He HAS discovered something that needs to be looked at. Science without an open mind is not science at all. Isn’t it interesting that the Bible says, “As a man thinketh, so is he.”

  • qbulb says:

He mentioned “New Age Spiritualism”. He Did say “so-called” New Age…. Fortunately he didn’t bring it up again and when I listened to the entire series, I had to wonder that the New Age had to do with it anyway. Throughout, he talked only about the biology (of the cell, etc.). I guess, like anyone with a belief system, there is a desire to mention it at least once. That is why Christians mention Jesus Christ/God, Muslims mention Allah and New Agers, well they do their own thing.

  • dudepal187 says:

@redpillreality I understand that, but this is a prime example of pseudoscience. I just finished his book a month ago and was appalled. Epigenetics is a very interesting field but he is stretching the truth of it in order to promote his own world-view. He presents a lot of false ideas and attempts to fit science into Eastern philosophy. Even the order of gene expression that is so crucial to development is encoded in your genes. He is misleading people with false hope and information.

  • redpillreality says:

@dudepal187 genes just tell your cells how to make proteins. there just blueprints for proteins( and everything else that makes your cells) which do all the work. hes saying there not as important in making you you as mainstream biology is teaching

  • dudepal187 says:

I dont get why he is so anti-genes. Its not just the proteins (also lipids, polysaccharides, and nucleic acids) that control life, DNA and RNA are big parts of what makes you who you are. Epigenetics now tells us that acetylation and methylation of certain genes can occur due to lifestyle choices which can then be passed on but all that means is that we have SOME power as to what information is available for our cells to read. Bruce’s message is a little misleading, genes are hugely important.

@snexer They do in England, in high school, but not in as much detail.

  • FragmakerPoland says:

@snexer nah you’re probably just retarded

  • soulflyz88 says:

You silly humans. It will take you forever to figure out that you are starved for electrons from the earth because you wear rubber shoes. Now re- consider the charge aspects on the DNA. Your entire physiology and spiritual energy is disrupted because of shoes. Ground your body. Bare feet on the ground. Its that simple.

Say, for example, this is a flat-out lie. Why would this make him “a charlatan of the worst and most vile sort”? It resonates as truthful with me. And, remember, this lecture is based on experiments that have been re-tested for 30+ years with similar outcomes. It is not a lie. Besides, it reconnects our mind/body.

  • ExtantFrodo says:

What Bruce Lipton says on video 6 of this series (/watch?v=CFO741MrkIU) from 2:35 – 2:46. Is a god damned lie. This man is a charlatan of the worst and most vile sort.

  • ExtantFrodo says:

@americanmambi Fine, just please keep your insanity away from everyone else. Okay?

  • americanmambi says:

@ExtantFrodo I accept your opinion and respect it. I still do consider myself boundless and limitless.

  • ExtantFrodo says:

@americanmambi He claims you can change your DNA. He is a liar. You may have some small measure of control over whether genes you already have get expressed or not. PERIOD. He is a con man of the worst caliber.
You are NOT limitless. Don’t try jumping off a bridge to prove it.

  • americanmambi says:

    “Limits of our genetics”
I am sorry but that sounds like another spoon fed idea. And if that statement is just an opinion, I rather have opinions such as ” I am boundless, limitless” . A few years bach I was reading a few passages on Lao Tzu, and one of the things he used to live by was to be spontaneous and not been tied down by “beliefs” which I believe was along with some of the ideas Mr Lipton is trying to convey in this ‘new science’

  • snexer says:

@Trepsik that is absolutely right, but do not forget, the limits of our genetic make up are further away then you would think.

  • Trepsik says:

@LazyOtaku I’m sorry i don’t see how my opinion presented free of anger and childish remarks is Trollish. MrNobodyNothing is a troll. I am not. i posted my thoughts on his video and just because i may not entirely agree with what he says, although if you properly interpret my post you will see that i am not disagreeing with the basis of his idea. You my friend, by not contributing anything at all to the discussion beyond calling me out, are the Troll

  • Trepsik says:

I thoroughly believe in the ideology presented by eastern medicine. The whole mind over matter thing to put it plainly. The mind is the most powerful tool we posses. it is also, unfortunately in most cases, the most underused.
